HUMC Leadership Loosens COVID Restrictions

Hello Church Family,

The Harrisburg UMC Leadership team met, January 19th to discuss whether to open up the church to regular church actives.  Looking at the facts of COVID in South Dakota and the vaccination rate in SD,  the leadership has decided to open up the church to more in-person church functions.  Church function means;  Youth group, small groups, choir and praise band practice, bible studies, circle meetings, confirmation, sunday school, coffee fellowship, funerals, and weddings.  For all functions, we encourage social distance and wearing masks.  We will continue offering worship in-person at 9 a.m. and 10:30 a.m.

Our decision does not require groups to start meeting in-person at the church; for example, the choir may not be ready until more people are vaccinated. That is fine. However, it does means that if the choir wants to start meeting, they can. The same goes for all other church functions.
At this time, the church will be open for church functions only and not for community use. However, we will continue to monitor the COVID situation by watching the COVID numbers in the state and our local schools.  We are praying that we will be able to open up more in the future.
