A long time ago the preacher stood in front of his people and said, “In all this I have given you an example that by such work we must support the weak, remembering the words of the Lord Jesus, for he himself said, “It is more blessed to_______ than to_________” Acts 20:35.
What do you think fits in the blanks? When I was a kid I would not have believed the answers, but today they are spot on, especially in kingdom living. It is more blessed to give than to receive. On December 10th at the 9 a.m. and 10:20 a.m. worship services you are going to receive a gift from the church.
Two years ago, the church received a foundation gift from one our members. The interest from the gift is to be used for the spiritual growth of the Harrisburg UMC. For the sake of your spiritual growth, you will receive a gift for you to use in small groups, with your family or just for own individual Christian growth. My hope is that as you receive the gift, you will use it, and one of the signs of using the gift will be that you will become a giver. You will grow into the truth, “It is more blessed to give than to receive.”
The gospel message of Christmas is, “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life” John 3:16. I believe when you receive God’s gift of Jesus into your life you become a gift to others. Remember, the gift will be revealed to you December 10th!
